JAR is a collection of very short poems with occasional photographs. The use of space in the book is notable in that each poem feels self-contained; separate, like a row of houses in the same small town. JAR has gone through many incarnations, from a 200 page version to this, its shortest version.

The pool of poems from which these pieces were drawn were originally scrawled on index cards. This system of jotting, in contrast to a notebook, nourishes the undertone of independence that ultimately threads these poems together. Anyone with an interest in the work of Richard Brautigan will likely find great pleasure in this collection.
